Hatimoğulları: Young people will build a democratic society

The co-chair of the DEM Party, Tülay Hatimoğulları, said at a meeting in Van that Abdullah Öcalan places great trust in youth to build a democratic society.

Tülay Hatimoğulları, co-chair of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), attended a meeting organized by university students in Van (Wan). Here she said that her party has been discussing Abdullah Öcalan’s Call for Peace and a Democratic Society with all segments of society and that they will continue to do so. She announced that they plan to carry out home visits reaching three million households, and added: "Young people are the most important force in this process, and they have paid a heavy price in their struggle."

Hatimoğulları said that the world is going through deep crises and added: "Mr. Öcalan’s recent statement is both a reflection and an analysis of global political developments. By fully understanding what is happening in the world, we can grasp the true meaning of his call with greater clarity. This call holds immense importance not only for resolving the Kurdish question in Turkey, but also for all four parts of Kurdistan, as well as for Syria and Rojava next to us." She continued: "But we must also recognize that developments in Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Turkey, and on a broader scale, throughout the Middle East and North Africa, are all deeply interconnected. Likewise, the tensions between India and Pakistan, between China and Thailand, and the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine are all results of the global crisis we are witnessing."

Hatimoğulları stated that global capital and the capitalist system are experiencing a profound crisis. She explained that wars are continuing in various forms and emphasized, through current developments, that the world is shifting from a unipolar structure to a multipolar one.

Mr. Öcalan’s greatest dream is an internationalist political structure

Hatimoğulları spoke about their delegation’s meeting with Abdullah Öcalan and shared the following: "In our meeting, Mr. Öcalan said that the nation-state model has completed its time and historical role. He emphasized that during periods of such deep historical rupture and crisis, the nation-state system is bound to collapse. But in order to dismantle it, an alternative must be created. And what is that alternative? It is democratic society and organizing for a democratic society." She added: "Within the scope of the internationalist struggle, Mr. Öcalan shared a very fundamental idea. He said that if the disarmament process progresses concretely and a path forward is established, his greatest dream is to see the creation of an internationalist political structure. This could take the form of a political party or an international organization. He elaborated on this vision in great detail and also invited us to share our perspectives on it."

A strong ideological foundation is essential

Hatimoğulları said that Mr. Öcalan told them: "There is no such thing as an isolated individual; there may be a person detached from society, but even that person carries the memories of a destroyed society." She added: "When we look back at the history of struggles, whether in Turkey or globally, particularly in the history of revolutionary movements, we see that youth have always been the driving force. In this sense, youth organization holds a critical role in building a democratic society and in waging a powerful struggle against the dominant system. That is why, whenever young people attempt to organize or assert their presence, they are met with the most oppressive face of the system." She continued: "The only way to resist this oppression is through a serious commitment to education and ideological grounding. Once we possess these, every attack by the system will crash against a solid wall and be repelled. For youth to pave the way and take the lead in organizing a democratic society, the essential path lies in building strong organization, engaging in educational work, raising awareness, and embodying a deep ideological consciousness in everything we do."

It is the youth who will organize a democratic society

Hatimoğulları stated that Mr. Öcalan places great expectations on the youth. She said: "Today, it is young people who will carry forward and organize a democratic society. If there is a break in this generation’s commitment to preserving our culture and mother tongue, then we must recognize that future generations will inherit nothing. In all areas of struggle in Turkey today, your role as the driving force has made an immensely important contribution. In the spirit of the Call for Peace and a Democratic Society, leading a united, democratic youth struggle against fascism is of vital importance, not only for the Kurdish people, but for all peoples. Because youth is dynamic. Results are achieved wherever the youth are organized. Results are achieved through the line of action and consciousness created by young people. That is why Mr. Öcalan emphasized in his call that everyone must build their own autonomous organization, and, through that, transform and democratize society."

Hatimoğulları concluded: "Great responsibilities fall on the shoulders of our young comrades. Alongside practical action, it is also essential to develop one’s ideological stance, raise consciousness, build theory, and organize a practical path guided by that awareness. This is a responsibility we all share."
