Greens are funding Erdogan's mosque in France

The Greens, which run the municipality of Strasbourg, approved the financing of the largest mosque in Europe, which is a project of Turkey-backed Millî Görüş (National View).

The Municipality of Strasbourg run by Janne Barseghian from the Europe Ecology–The Greens (EELV) has approved the subsidy of over 2.5 million dollars for the construction of Eyyüp Sultan Mosque under the lead of the pro-Erdogan Millî Görüş (National View). The Millî Görüş refused to sign the “charter of principles” introduced by the French state to combat radical Islamism. If the construction of the mosque is completed, it will be Europe's largest mosque.

EELV's financing of the mosque construction by an advocate of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has received intense reaction from politicians.

"It is not the first time that the mayors of the EELV party are on the very slippery slope of radical Islamism," said Marlene Schiappa, Minister Delegate in charge of Citizenship.

Schiappa reminded that the CCIF (Collective against Islamophobia in France), which was dissolved over charges of Islamist propaganda, had also received financial support from the municipality of Grenoble, governed by Eric Piolle from the Greens in the past.

"If it happens once, it can be considered a mistake, but if it's coordinated, it's not a mistake," said Schiappa.

The Greens preferred to blame the government rather than stop funding. Sandra Regol, a top Greens politician, stated on Twitter that Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin had also received the same association in November and presented it as "republicanism". But when Janne Barseghian continues the project initiated by the former mayor, is it radical Islamism?"

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin reacted to the decision of the Strasbourg municipality and said, "The Strasbourg Municipal Council should not have financed an external intervention in our territory."

Darmanin added, "In France, there is a strong foreign intervention which involves Turkey as well."
