German radical left: We will increase solidarity with Kurds

Interventionistiche Linke (IL - Interventionist Left), the umbrella organization for German radical left, condemned the police violence against the march in Düsseldorf and called to “increase solidarity with Kurds”.

On November 4 in Düsseldorf, capital of Germany’s North Rhine-Westphalia state, a march was held to protest the AKP-MHP government’s oppression in Turkey and Kurdistan and Germany’s bans against Kurds.

The march was held under the slogan “No Pasaran! Fascism won’t go through! Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan and All Political Prisoners” and was attacked by the police with water cannons, batons and teargas, with the excuse of protesters carrying Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan’s posters. Dozens were injured in the attack.

Interventionistiche Linke (IL - Interventionist Left), the umbrella organization for German radical left, condemned the police violence against protesters. IL issued a written statement on their website titled “Enough is enough” and, pointing out that it wasn’t just the Kurdish activists in Düsseldorf, but also Turkish opposition and German left, and made the following call:

“On November 4, something changed. Kurdish comrades shouted ‘enough is enough’ thousands of times. Despite all bans, YPG flags and Öcalan posters were held up. An open resistance was displayed, nobody was afraid, nobody stepped back. They were only able to stop the protesters’ march with batons and tear gas.

We will continue to insist on these demands: Arms sales to Turkey must end. Bans against Kurdish symbols and flags must end. Freedom for Kurdish and Turkish prisoners in the Federal Republic of Germany, freedom for Abdullah Öcalan. End the PKK ban. Don’t be mistaken, we will fight and increase the struggle shoulder to shoulder. We will continue our common struggle for a free society and we will show all kinds of solidarity.”
