The editor-in-chief of the newspaper, Léo Purguette, wrote the following in Monday’s special issue; "It is time for France to remove the PKK from the list of terrorist organizations and take action for the freedom of Öcalan, the Mandela of the Kurds.”

La Marseillaise newspaper was founded by the insurgents during the Nazi occupation in 1943 as the regional newspaper of the south. The communist-leaning newspaper opened its doors to components of all social movements in 1997. Distributed in Bouches-du-Rohne and Var regions, the newspaper also has a weekly version in the Occitanie district.

In recent weeks, high profile newspapers in many countries of Europe have given wide coverage to declarations demanding the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan.
