Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has landed in German capital city Berlin amidst security precautions unseen in Germany’s recent history. He is planning on putting on a show with his supporters before the official program.

Supporters greeted Erdogan in his hotel from noon onwards with Takbeer chants, launching the first provocation attempt.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s plane took him from New York City where he attended the UN General Assembly to Berlin’s Tegel airport today. The plane landed in the military portion of the airport, and Erdogan stepped foot in Germany where he will be holding official meetings for 3 days.

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) held a protest against Erdogan at the airport. The RSF prepared a mobile billboard that said, “Mr. Erdogan lands in Berlin, journalists land in prison,” pointing out the AKP government’s pressure on the press.

Erdogan later went to the Adlon Hotel near Brandenburger Tor where he will be staying for two days under security precautions unseen in Germany’s recent history. Snipers were placed all through Erdogan’s route, and police had units on rooftops.

FIRST MEETING WITH SUPPORTERS

5.000 police officers are working for Erdogan’s security. All streets around the hotel have been closed for traffic including pedestrians, but Erdogan supporters crossed the police line and gathered in front of the hotel.

The crowd chanted Takbeers, holding Turkish flags, as Erdogan entered the hotel. Erdogan will be resting in the hotel for the afternoon, and later will meet with representatives from AKP’s organizations in Germany in the hotel’s conference hall or the Turkish Embassy.

As the German state refused to greenlight Erdogan speaking to his supporters in large halls in Berlin or Cologne, Erdogan is expected to meet with some 100 representatives from AKP’s organizations in Germany to put on his first show.

Erdogan will be received in the Presidential Palace tomorrow for a dinner, and at the same time the Erdogan Not Welcome platform will lead the mass protest in Potsdamer Platz in central Berlin. Immigrants from Kurdistan and Turkey as wel as organizations of various peoples, political parties and NGOs support the march that is scheduled to begin at 16:00.
