Fierce clashes in Tabqa where SDF advances despite attacks

Fierce clashes are ongoing in Tabqa city where SDF fighters entered from two sides last night. Dozens of ISIS members were killed and two bomb-laden vehicles were destroyed during clashes.

Fighters of the YPG-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) entered Tabqa city of Raqqa province at around 00:00 last night. Clashes with ISIS gangs in Ayed Saxira and Alexandria neighborhoods of the city that erupted last night continue since.

Throughout today, ISIS gangs launched attacks on the positions of SDF fighters with heavy weaponry three times, and attempted suicide car bomb attacks. Two bomb-laden vehicles of the gangs were destroyed by SDF fighters before they reached the targets. All the three attacks have been repelled in the wake of heavy clashes in the evening hours. Despite the attacks, SDF fighters have advanced 2 km in Ayed Saxira neighborhood.

Dozens of ISIS members have been killed during clashes so far and dozens of their corpses remain in the clashes area under SDF control. In addition, SDF fighters have seized a panzer, 3 damaged Hammer vehicles and several military vehicles from the gangs.

In the meantime, international coalition aircraft hit 5 locations where the gangs are stationed.

Reports from the ground suggest that ISIS gangs have planted numerous mines and deployed snipers across the city in an effort to hinder the advance of the SDF fighters.
