Today is day 35 in DTK Co-chair and HDP MP Leyla Guven’s hunger strike and day 7 in the supporting hunger strike in Cologne. Lorîn Sezek and her father Merwan Sezek, both of the Yazidi faith, have been in the hunger strike in Cologne for the last 3 days.

Lorîn Sezek passes out flyers and informs the public, while Merwan Sezek shares the tasks in the hunger strike tent and prepares hot beverages for his friends.

FASTING FOR ÊZÎ

Merwan Sezek is on a hunger strike, while Lorîn Sezek is also fasting. Yazidis fast for 3 days in December for the holiday of Êzî.

“I AM HERE FOR THE LEADER AND LEYLA GUVEN”

“We fast on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the first week of December for Shems, second week for Xwudan and third week for Êzî. I spoke with my father and said I wanted to fast in the hunger strike tent together with my friends. He was delighted. He works in the NAV-YEK. This is what Mam Zekî’s struggle asks of us. I am here for the Leader and for Leyla Guven.”

Lorîn Sezek fasts during the day, refraining from drinking, and during the evenings only drinks water and tea like a hunger striker.

Lorîn Sezek said: “Fasting starts with the sunrise in Kurdistan, and ends with the sunset. Here I fast from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.”
