On 24 September, Turkish police raided the Mesopotamia Language and Culture Research Association (MED-DER), Payîz Pirtûk and Anka Language and Art Education Cooperative in Amed (Diyarbakır) and detained 30 people. Books, magazines and digital materials were confiscated during the raids and a confidentiality order was issued on the investigation.
Among those detained on the basis of an investigation dating back to 2022 are Kurdish language teachers.
Cihat Güney, who runs the Payîz Pirtûk bookstore, was released after giving his statement at the prosecutor's office on Wednesday.
It is reported that an additional detention warrant was issued for the other 29 people for 24 hours.
The detainees include MED-DER co-chairs Mehmet Remzi Azizoğlu and Şükran Yakut, and Rojda Yıldız, a member of the Editorial Board of Jineoloji magazine.
