Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) leader Selahattin Demirtas said his party is a democratic alternative for the government and they may be targeted for denouncing ruling AKP's politics.
Speaking to senior party officials in Ankara Demirtas underlined the importance of preparations for the general elections in June saying that BDP is an important alternative for the government. He called every member to participate actively during BDP's election campaign.
“The election process is an opportunity for us to move forward and gain important grounds” he told his party officials.
“If we want a permanent solution (for the Kurdish Question), if we want to be victorious on the struggle of a future in which Turkey becomes a democratic country, this election process is an important step.”
BDP leader said his party managed to show Turkey's people that AKP's real face and it's solutions are “virtual” and added that BDP is a party which decodes AKP's politics. He also said that his party members even the organization itself may be targeted.
Demirtas warned his party officials that the process leading to the elections is very important for democracy struggle in Turkey.
After Demirtas's speech the meeting continued behind closed doors.
BDP now has twenty deputies at the Turkish parliament. Pro-Kurdish made huge gains in local elections in 2008 and now preparing for the general elections in June 2011.
