Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair and Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Hakkari MP Leyla Guven is on day 83 of her indefinite and non-alternating hunger strike with the demand that the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan be lifted.

Guven’s health continues to be critical. A committee from the Diyarbakir Chamber of Medicine (DTO) has been handling Guven’s routine checkups. DTO Chairperson Mehmet Serif Demir said they formed the committee upon the public concern for Guven’s health. Demir added that they started working to ensure that effects on Guven’s health are recorded and she be kept under observation of an expert committee during her hunger strike on demand of her lawyers. Demir said the committee visited Guven but couldn’t complete the examination because she wasn’t feeling well enough. Demir stressed that Guven is fatigued and having difficulty taking fluids, and that she has lost a significant amount of weight and muscle mass.

Demir added that the committee will visit Guven again soon to examine her.
