The Hamas government's Ministry of Health announced that the death toll in the war that has been raging in the Gaza Strip for more than nine months has reached 38,664.
According to the statement made by the ministry on Sunday, at least 80 people have died in the last 24 hours, while at least 38,664 people have been killed in Israeli attacks since 7 October. On the other hand, 89 thousand people were injured during the same period.
The Health Ministry also raised the death toll from 15 to 22 after an Israeli air strike on a school in central Gaza on Sunday.
Civil Defence spokesman Mahmoud Bassal told AFP on Sunday that the Abu Araban school is run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and houses "thousands of displaced people". This was the fifth Israeli airstrike on a school in the Gaza Strip in eight days.
The Israeli military claimed on Sunday that "a number of terrorists were operating in the area" of the school. "This area was used as a shelter and operational infrastructure from which attacks against Israeli army units operating in the Gaza Strip were directed and carried out," the army statement said.
