DBP: The government must take concrete steps

In its final declaration, the DBP urged the government to "move beyond uncertainty and take concrete steps" in response to Abdullah Öcalan's call.

After the Party Assembly and Provincial co-chairs meeting held in Diyarbakır (Amed), the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) released its final declaration.

The declaration said: “Following Abdullah Öcalan's 'Call for Peace and a Democratic Society' on February 27, 2025, we, as the DBP, held an extraordinary meeting led by our co-chairs Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar and Keskin Bayındır, along with our Party Assembly members and provincial co-chairs. During the meeting, we conducted extensive evaluations on the themes of 'Mr. Öcalan's call and the democratic resolution of the Kurdish issue.”

The key points from the DBP final declaration are as follows:

“- Mr. Öcalan’s call carries historical significance not only for the Kurdish people but also for all communities and for Turkey’s democratization process. This call represents a strong will to pave the way for peace, freedom, and equality. As DBP, we will embrace this call, strive to turn the steps taken into a structured process, and work with all our strength to safeguard our people's gains.

-The construction of a democratic society should not only be a goal but a way of life. This is the fundamental condition for ensuring the coexistence of peoples, securing their freedoms, and establishing equality and justice.

- Supporting Mr. Öcalan’s commitment to a resolution is not only a political responsibility but also an expression of our deep dedication to the future of our people. His determination for a solution is an opportunity for the freedom and equality of all peoples, and we will never allow this opportunity to be lost. The achievements of the Kurdish people must be protected and further advanced in this new period.

- The broad societal engagement in the process initiated under Mr. Öcalan’s leadership is of critical importance. The "Call for Peace and a Democratic Society" also reflects the shared demands of all peoples. The participation of our people and society as a whole in this process will play a crucial role in achieving and sustaining peace.

- To strengthen the will for a resolution at the societal level, we will organize public meetings and gatherings in over 100 locations in the coming period. Through this plan, we will inform the public and ensure that they actively participate in the process. Particularly, through the March 8 and Newroz celebrations, led by women across all spheres, we will put our commitment to the resolution process into action with great enthusiasm.

- Ensuring Mr. Öcalan’s physical freedom is crucial for the success of this process. His physical freedom and living conditions must be improved without delay so that he can express his thoughts freely.

- Given all these factors, the government and state must now move beyond uncertainty and take clear and concrete steps toward a solution. Furthermore, the parliamentary platform that Mr. Öcalan has persistently emphasized must become more effective, and responsibility should be shared by all segments of society, from the opposition to civil society organizations.”

The declaration concluded with the following statement: "As DBP, we are determined to uphold the 'Call of the Century' made on February 27 and to advance this process together with our people. We will continue our struggle to preserve the will for a resolution, meet the demands of our people, and make peace permanent. This process is not merely a political proposal but a tangible expression of all peoples’ struggle for freedom and equality. We will fulfill our role in turning Mr. Öcalan’s call into a social movement and work at every step to strengthen peace and a lasting resolution."
