Colombian President Gustavo Petro stated that one of the first actions to be taken by his government will be to resume peace talks with the National Liberation Army (ELN). In this sense, the president announced that Cuba will be the venue for these talks to end the armed conflict in the country.

Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva, Senator Iván Cepeda and High Commissioner for Peace Danilo Rueda are part of the commission sent to Cuba by President Petro to resume talks with the guerrillas. The government has said that the idea is to resume the process with the ELN at the point where it had been left when former President Duque suspended it.

Talks could be resumed in the next weeks, said the commission.
