Colombian President Duque didn't meet Social Strikers

Colombian President Ivan Duque did not meet indigenous and peasants on strike for fear of attacks.

After reaching an agreement with the Government, the Social Minga of Southwestern Colombia (Social Strike) committed the State with nearly one trillion pesos to improve the living conditions of this region of the country.

The agreement, which also scheduled the President's visit to Cauca on 9 April, allowed the Pan-American highway to be unblocked since last Friday. Yet President Duque did not meet with the indigenous and peasants on strike. The reason given by Duque for not meeting with the social strikers was fear for his safety after the General proseuctor Nestor Humberto Martinez had warned about possible attacks.

Leaders of the Minga (Strike) delegation shared the text signed with ANF.

The agreement signed at dawn on 5 April in Mondomó Cauca, between representatives of the government of Iván Duque and the delegation of the 'Social Minga for the Defense of Life, Territory, Democracy and Justice and Peace' delivered a favorable result for the Minga which showed strong unity. Indigenous people, Afro-Colombians and peasants exchanged during these days knowledge and feelings that will materialize towards a better co-existence life for the people.
