Boğaziçi academics call on the appointed rector to resign

Boğaziçi academics who reject the trustee rector appointed to their universities, call on the rector to resign during a protest event.

The resistance initiated by academics and students against the trustee-rector Melih Bulu, who was appointed to Boğaziçi University by the Turkish President Erdoğan, continues.

The Boğaziçi academics, who came together in the South Campus to continue the protest which entered its 54th day, turned their back to the rector’s office and called on the trustee rector to resign.

"APPOINTED RECTOR DOESN'T CONFORM WITH OUR UNIVERSITY TRADITION"

In a statement made this week, the academics reacted to the failure for almost a month to evaluate the resignation request of their colleagues who were appointed to the Institute of Social Sciences against their will. They also slammed the failure to appoint an institute director they elected democratically.

The academics stated that the elected dean for Engineering Faculty has not appointed either. "The appointed rector did not hesitate to invite the Dean of the Faculty of Law, who was appointed in defiance of our university tradition, to the university board meeting", they added.

Emphasizing their determination to continue to fight for their democratic rights, the academics said, “We call on the appointed rector, vice rectors and appointed dean of the Faculty of Law to resign. We do not accept and we do not give up.”
