Residents of Ciftlik village in Beydagi, a town of Izmir province, lives in middle-age conditions beacause of the hoover-dam constructed nearby.
The villagers were removed from their homes three years ago and transferred to a newly constructed village 500 meters away from the original village. But although they live on the shores of a hoover dam they live without electricity and drinking water for over 2 years.
While most villagers immigrated to nearby towns and villagers the remaining few carries water with demijohns and lit candles at night, struggling to live.
Village mukhtar Nazif Kaplan said that the Turkish state officials paid 30 thousand TL for each house before the construction of the hoover dam and showed them a part of land to rebuild the village.
"No one helped us building our homes. No electricity and water provided for the new village since we finished the construction two years ago" Kaplan said.
Kaplan appealed to the Beydagi municipality, water and electicity disturbition institutions but no one helped him.
"We are carrying water from kilometers away. Our kids do their homework in candle light. We are living in middle-age contions in twenty-first centeury" he said.
