Mayor of the most populous Kurdish city blasted Turkish authorities for prolonged trial period of Kurdish politicians and said that the trials turned to torture for the accused.
Osman Baydemir, mayor of Diyarbakir, told to an European envoy that the 151 Kurdish politicians who will stand trial today are slandered and labelled the prolonged trial period as torture.
A Swiss envoy headed by MP Kaspar Birkhauser visited Baydemir before the trial of Kurdish politicians who are accused of being a member of the outlawed KCK.
Baydemir is among the 151 Kurdish politicians who will stand trial today.
Baydemir said today's trial is the most significant one against Kurdish legal political parties and accused Turkish government of criminalizing Kurdish legal movement.
He told the envoy that more than 500 Kurdis politicians are arrested on false grounds in the last two years after pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party (DTP) won the municipal elections with an overwhelming majority in most of the Kurdish cities.
He called all the democratic international institutions, NGOs and peace activists to show their support for the Kurdish politicians.
He thanked the members of the envoy for their solidarity with the Kurdish people.
