The Basque Parliament has passed a motion in which it "expresses its deep concern over the trial of 108 people that began on April 21 due to the lack of procedural guarantees and the serious violations of the rights of the defense."

The motion also said that the Parliament "considers it unacceptable that in a democracy elected representatives and representatives of civil society can be held accountable for what happened in the popular protests that began in October 2014, even more so when investigations into these events are actively hampered."

The Basque Parliament motion, approved by all groups except the conservative Popular Party (PP), also "stands in solidarity with the HDP, a political formation that faces systematic repression from the Turkish state" and "urges the Turkish Government to comply with the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights of December 22, 2020 on Selahattin Demirtas and to release him immediately."
