Avesta: Time is running up for Turkey

A prominent KCK official said the unilateral ceasefire decision will be reviewed in March and said time is running up for Turkish government on taking new steps which will convince the Kurdish movement to extend the ceasefire.

Sozdar Avesta, a woman member of the KCK's Executive Council said ruling AKP's every move is aiming to provoke the organisation to break the ceasefire and commented about Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan's statements last week.

Last week Ocalan said ýf Turkish government fails to take certain steps until March he will give up his peace-making role.

Avesta said it would be a positive step if Turkey had released some of the Kurdish politicians who are standing trial in Diyarbakir. She warned that AKP has only limited time, about 1,5 months, but still there are no positive developments.

She accused AKP of re-organising the state with its cadres and following popular politics on the eve of the general election in June 2011.

“AKP is hoping to get a high percentage of votes which will give them enough power to form a new constitution. But the new constitution will not be a democratic one. It will only serve AKP's desire to have more power within the Turkish state actors” Avesta said.

Sozdar Avesta also warned that if AKP resists on old ignorance-politics Kurdish people will show their resistance on the streets and every aspect of life.

PKK declared a ceasefire last August which is in force until general elections in Turkey in June 2011. But Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan said that they will review the political process and the ceasefire may be over before June.
