Attacks to Kurdish students in Turkey on parliament's agenda

BDP parliamentarian Fatma Kurtulan asked the Turkish Minister of Interior about the attack against university students took place Dumlupinar University in Kutahya. She pointed out the fact that such attacks have been increasing recently and almost all the victim students are Kurdish.

In her parliamentary question sheet to be responded by the Turkish MOI Besir Atalay, Kurtulan stated that a Kurdish student from Ercis district of Van province Özdemir Örnek applied Human Rights Association (IHD) and complained about the pressure that Kurdish students are subjected at university dormitories. Student Örnek was assaulted by a group of 7 persons, members of Turkish nationalist organisatioin Alperen Ocaklari who are backed up by the special security forces. She also stated that Örnek is worried about his life security and such incidents against the Kurdish students are increasing against which the officials should take necessary measure.

Kurtulan asked:

Has the MOI launched an investigation concerning Örnek’s application? Why haven’t the necessary precautions taken despite the fact that victims have already been attacked by the same group before? Are there a statistics about similar incident took place between 2002- 2010 and whether the victims have been classified according to their ethnic identities.
