Almost 250 dead in ISIS attacks in Syria

Almost 250 people have lost their lives in the coordinated ISIS attacks in Suweyda to the south of Syria on Wednesday.

ISIS carried out coordinated attacks in several villages of the Suwayda region. There were several suicide bombings as part of the attacks in the Suwayda region, which is under regime control. ISIS gangs are present in the desert areas of this region to the north east, with a Durzi majority. Suwayda had been fairly isolated from clashes since the beginning of the civil war in 2011.

The death toll has constantly been rising since Wednesday. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, close to 250 people have lost their lives in the attacks claimed by ISIS. SOHR Director Rami Abdul Rahman said, “Currently, 246 people have lost their lives and 135 of them are civilians.” The rest of the casualties are pro-regime fighters and residents who have taken up arms to defend their villages.

Rami Abdul Rahman said, “The death toll is rising, there are civilians who lost their lives and persons whose bodies are being discovered.”

According to the SOHR, at least 45 ISIS members also died in the attacks.
