AKP Spokesperson: PKK declaration marks “the opening of a new era"

AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik described the PKK's announcement that it was ending its activities as an important step marking “the opening of a new era".

The final declaration of the PKK's (Kurdistan Workers' Party) 12th Congress was released earlier today. According to the statement by the PKK 12th Congress Board, the Congress resolved to dissolve the PKK’s organizational structure and end the armed struggle, with the implementation process to be managed and led by Abdullah Öcalan. All activities conducted under the PKK name have therefore been concluded.

In a statement about the PKK declaration, the ruling AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik stated on his X account that the PKK's statement was an important step and marked “the opening of a new era.”

Çelik claimed that “achieving the goal of a ‘terror-free Turkey in a concrete manner, at a time when politics worldwide is being suffocated by the absence of politics, would enable Turkey to operate all its political channels more effectively, thereby strengthening our democracy, political life, and national unity.”

Çelik added: “Political dialogue channels will be ensured to function at their strongest in all legitimate political forums, particularly the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. The awareness that our Republic is the ‘roof’ that shelters us all, and the understanding that democracy is the fundamental ‘ground’ for resolving all issues, will be further strengthened and entrenched politically. Our future will continue to take shape on the strongest and most legitimate foundations, guided by a sense of shared history, shared destiny, and citizenship. Every positive step will be an invitation to the next positive step. All our citizens will be the winners. Our fundamental principle is this: Though our names may be different, our surname is the Republic of Turkey.”
