Activists vow new actions to protest Rheinmetal arms factory

The civil disobedience action held in front of Rheinmetall in Kassel, ended with a march.

The civil disobedience started on Friday morning in front of the German arms giant Rheinmetall's factory in Kassel, which produces weapons for repressive regimes in many war zones of the world from Kurdistan to Yemen, from Mexico to African countries, lasted all day.

The march organized within the scope of the "Bi hev re serhildan" initiative left from Halitplatz.

A rally was held in front of the main station. An activist was also detained on the grounds that he was hiding his face during the action.

The alliance Disarm Rheinmetall was formed in 2018 following the Turkish attack on Afrin in northern Syria. By 2018, Rheinmetall's production site in Unterlüß had already hosted a protest camp and minor blockades.

Last year, more than twice as many activists* came and blocked access to the plant there for more than 24 hours. This year, the camp was cancelled due to the Corona pandemic and, in addition to online events, was mobilised for today's action day in Kassel. Adila Dilaram announced further actions: "We will continue - in Kassel, Unterlüß and everywhere where war production takes place, we want to disturb. Wars start here with the production of weapons and that is where we have to stop them."
