Activists in Kadıköy invite everyone to take to the streets on May Day

Activists managed to hold a press statement after police took 41 people into custody in Kadıköy.

Activists wanted to hold a press conference Kadıköy about the banning of May Day celebrations. Police attacked the crowd and took 41 people into custody. Activists eventually managed to hold the press conference and invited everyone to take to the streets on 1 May.

People protested the detentions and waited in front of the Education and Science Workers Union (Eğitim - Sen) Istanbul No.2 Branch building in Kadıköy.

After the police attack activists went into the trade union’s building and hold a press statement there.

Eğitim-Sen No.3 Branch chair, Ayfer Koçak, said, "Our May Day celebrations many times in the past took place in courthouse’s corridors."

Pointing out that what is inflicted on the working people is cruelty, Koçak added that only the laborers can stop this cruelty. “Dozens of our friends were detained in the past two days. We are facing the repression of laborers and women. We are expanding our struggle to cross all borders.”

Koçak invited everyone to take to the streets on 1 May.
