Activists in Basel protest Turkish attacks on Kurds

The massacre and occupation attacks carried out by the AKP-MHP fascism and targeting civilians in Kurdistan were protested with a march in Basel.

Hundreds of revolutionary, democratic, patriotic people gathered in the park area on Bahnofplatz, to join the demo organised by the IDGB (Swiss Democratic Force Association).

A minute silence was held in memory of the martyrs of the revolution and struggle for freedom as well as the victims of the Turkish attacks, especially women and children.

Fatoş Göksungur, co-chair of the KCDK-E (European Democratic Kurdish Society Congress), delivered a speech at the demonstration saying the “AKP-MHP dictatorship is continuing in the old tradition of massacre and attacks against civilians in Kurdistan. Not content with the repression in Kurdistan, the Turkish state has now started to carry out provocations in Europe, where Kurds live."

Touching on the attacks carried out by the Turkish government-led mobs against democratic institutions in Vienna last week, Göksungur said: "The fascist Turkish state today aims at criminalizing democratic institutions and the Kurdish people in Europe. Our call to all Kurds living in Switzerland, their friends and everyone who favoured democracy, is to unite and resist. Because we will beat fascism by uniting."

Activists then marched and held sit-in actions at popular places of the city.
