Abadi threatens Kurds with military intervention

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi threated Kurds with military intervention if the Kurdistan independence referendum scheduled for September 25 results in violence.

In an interview with Associated Press on Saturday (September 16) Abadi said that if the Iraqi population is “threatened by the use of force outside law, then we will intervene militarily.”

Iraqi Premier called the referendum a “dangerous escalation” that will invite violations to Iraq’s sovereignty.

Federal Kurdish Government will hold a referendum on independence on September 25.  Last week Iraqi parliament voted against the referendum.

US special envoy McGurk also said that US administration is 100 percent against the planned referendum on independence.
