A singer in the ranks of the YPG in Dêir ez-Zor

Beyar Heysem Mihemed is from Hesekê. He joined the People's Defense Units (YPG) together with four of his brothers. With his songs, he is a moral incentive for the fighters at the front.

Beyar Heysem Mihemed, nom de guerre of Gelhat Hesekê, is a fighter and artist in the ranks of the People's Defense Units, YPG. Three other brothers of his fight in the YPG, while another brother is part of the self-defense forces of Rojava. With the weapon in his hand, he frightens the jihadist militia, but his comrades at the front thrill with his singing. In the midst of the Operation Cizirê Storm, Gelhat's voice echoes the euphoria of freedom.

Gelhat, who joined the People's Defense Units in 2014 and has previously participated in the liberation offensives in Til Hemîs, Til Merûf, Shaddadi and Raqqa, is currently at the frontline in Dêir ez-Zor.

Gelhat was active in the works of arts and culture before he joined the YPG. Now at the front he sings cheery songs for the freedom fighters of the liberation offensive Cizirê Storm.

HIS SONGS AWAKEN ENTHUSIASIM

While the fighters continue to advance in the rural areas of Dêir ez-Zor, the singing of Gelhat Hesekê awakens enthusiasm in the Operation Cizîrê Storm.

Gelhat joined the YPG in Hesekê. He remembers the day as follows: "Our commander was comrade Çekdar who was martyred later. He asked me which nom de guerre I would like to have in the struggle. I said that he could decide about it. From now on, you will carry the name of Martyr Gelhat. Embrace his thoughts and act according to the ideas of Leader Apo, was his answer."

"I GAVE MY PROMISE TO ÇEKDAR"

Gelhat mentioned that the fallen Çekdar also comes from Hesekê, and continued;

"Several times, Çekdar came to my position and offered to take over my watch if I was exhausted. He fell with his two brothers in the liberation of the village of Abû Fas in Dêir ez-Zor. Therefore, I again give my word for him, I will continue my struggle with the spirit of my comrade Martyr Gelhat and the philosophy of Leader Apo."
