A new era for PYD in Europe

The 9th congress of PYD’s European organization has concluded. An administration of 36 people was elected for the coming period and a series of decisions were made including efforts for the freedom of Öcalan and increased international support for Rojava.

The 9th congress of Partiya Yekitiya Demokrat-Democratic Union Party (PYD) that started in the Netherlands on Saturday has concluded on Sunday after intense debates. The first day of the congress was attended by many political parties, NGO representatives and politicians from the Middle East and Europe while the second day was reserved for more internal debates. After the assessment of the two years of efforts in the PYD, plans for the coming era and a series of decisions were made.

After the activity and financial reports for the two years of PYD Europe were read, debates started. Delegates offered their criticisms and proposals.

“ROJAVANS COMING TO EUROPE SHOULD BE ORGANIZED”

The debates pointed out the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan and posed the criticism that there is not enough objection in Europe. Delegates stated that a legal struggle should be launched especially against Germany banning Öcalan posters and PYD, YPG and YPJ flags.

Proposals by some delegates that the experience gained in Europe regarding healthcare, industry and other areas should be carried over to the newly formed Rojava structure by PYD Europe particularly stood out. There was emphasis on the shortcomings of organizing people migrating to Europe from Rojava in recent years and uniting them under one umbrella and proposals to reduce these shortcomings and prioritize these efforts. The shortcomings in efforts for women and the youth were also asked to be corrected.
