Özgür Özel re-elected chairman of the CHP

“This is also the beginning of the CHP's early election campaign,” said Özgür Özel, re-elected the chairman of the party on Sunday.

Özgür Özel was re-elected the chairman at the CHP's 21st Extraordinary Congress convened in Ankara on Sunday.

The congress took place at Yenimahalle Nazım Hikmet Cultural Center. Antalya Muratpaşa Mayor Ümit Uysal and former MP Berhan Şimşek withdrew their candidacy one hour after the congress started.

Berhan Şimşek was not accepted as a candidate for the presidency because he submitted 97 signatures 5 minutes late.

Speaking during the voting, Özel said, “We are on a historic day. Great injustices were done to this party. The nation sees this. This is also the beginning of the CHP's early election campaign. This is the last struggle of the government.”

According to the voting results, 1,276 of the 1,323 delegates cast their votes, 1,171 votes were counted as valid, and 105 as invalid. Özgür Özel was re-elected as CHP Chairman by receiving all the 1,171 votes.
