DEM Party MP Ömer Öcalan and lawyer Özgür Faik Erol met with CPT officials to talk about the aggravated isolation imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

IMRALI ISOLATION

DEM Party MP Ömer Öcalan and lawyer Özgür Faik Erol held meetings with CPT officials in Strasbourg.

Ömer Öcalan said that they provided information to CPT officials about the isolation and unlawful practices imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, and that CPT officials informed them that they could not disclose the reports of their visits without the permission of the member countries.

Stating that they reminded the CPT officials that the situation of Abdullah Öcalan is of critical importance for the Kurds and the Kurdish question, Ömer Öcalan said that they requested the CPT to be sensitive on this issue and apply pressure on Turkey.

CPT should carry out a deterrent mission

Lawyer Özgür Faik Erol, who attended the meeting with the CPT General Secretary and other officials, said that considering the conditions in Imralı, they conveyed that the CPT, as an institution that has been inspecting a prison in these conditions for 25 years, should adopt a deterrent mission.

Stating that they criticized the CPT's current attitude as encouraging Turkey's isolation policies, Erol said: "It is necessary to develop an approach, an attitude that will address the concerns and anxieties of Mr. Öcalan and the Kurdish people who follow his situation. For this reason, we have to do everything we can."
