53 more coronavirus cases registered in northeast Syria

In the autonomous regions of northern and eastern Syria, 53 new corona infections have been registered. One person has died in the past 24 hours. In total, the number of registered cases since the outbreak of the pandemic has thus risen to 478.

The Health Committee co-chair Ciwan Mistefa announced in Qamishlo on Thursday that 53 new corona infections have been registered in North and East Syria. The total number of registered cases since the beginning of the pandemic has thus risen to 478, with one new death since the previous day.

Most of the new infections in the northeastern Syrian autonomous region are recorded in the city of Qamishlo where 17 new cases have been added. Tabqa follows in second place with 13 new infections and Hesekê in third place with six new infections. Further cases are reported from Dêrik (5), Deir ez-Zor (4), Amûdê (3), Rimêlan (1), Dirbêsiyê (1), Raqqa (2) and Hol (1).

In northern and eastern Syria, 28 people have died in connection with coronavirus infection so far. 80 people are considered to have recovered.

Thanks to early contact restrictions, the autonomous regions initially had the pandemic well under control and were able to seal themselves off successfully for months - largely closed borders and strict quarantine regulations kept the virus away. Since the end of July, the number of cases of people infected with the coronavirus has been rising daily.
