300 new Covid-19 infections detected in Amed every day

According to the Amed Medical Association, an average of 300 new infections with the coronavirus are detected daily in the province. There are over 600 COVID-19 patients in the city's hospitals, 100 of whom are undergoing intensive care.

In Amed (Diyarbakir) 300 people a day test positive for an infection with the novel coronavirus. This was announced by the Medical Association of Diyarbakir at a press conference yesterday. More than 600 COVID-19 patients are being treated in the city's hospitals, about 100 are undergoing intensive care.

Elif Turan, the chairwoman of the Diyarbakir Medical Association, said at the press conference that the first wave of the corona pandemic in the region has not yet subsided. According to Turan, the biggest increase in infection figures is in south-east Anatolia, i.e. in the Kurdish areas. Turan attributes the fact that the number of cases in Turkey as a whole has fallen to the reduction in the number of tests carried out. In the last few days, 22 percent fewer tests have been carried out, resulting in a 23 percent decrease in the number of cases. Therefore, there can be no question of success, said the chairwoman of the chamber.

In the province of Amed, an average of 300 tests a day were positive last week, Turan said. In comparison to the case numbers published by the Ministry of Health, that makes up one third of the infections in the whole of Turkey. The need for intensive care is also extreme in Amed. Worldwide, 1.5 percent of active patients receive intensive care, in Turkey the average is ten percent and in Amed fifteen percent. Already now there have been deaths, because the capacity of the hospitals is exhausted.
