13 activists detained in Hakkari and Izmir

At least 13 people were detained in Þemdinli/Hakkari and Ýzmir at house raids by special operation teams.

A number of police, gendarme and special operation teams carried out raids on many houses yesterday towards morning in Altýnsu (Þapatan) Village, Meydan, Moda, Karþýyaka and Beþevler neighborhoods of Þemdinli. While the houses were searched at the raids, Þemdinli Municipality staffs Ýdris Sakin and Yunus Özkoyuncu, Erdem Akti, Ubeydullah Tekin and Abdulgaffur Gelici were detained and taken to Police Station after medical examinations in Þemdinli State Hospital.

The detentions were reported to be resulting from the previous acts and activities in the province. Separately, 5 children ranging from 15 and 17 years were detained yesterday at raids on houses and workplaces in the province.

AT LEAST 8 DETENTIONS IN ÝZMÝR

Many people were detained in Ýzmir with the city-wide operations started by evening hours. The detainees of the raids in various places were taken to Bozyaka Antý-Terror Branch. While the reason of the detentions is not explained, the names of some detainees are as follows; "Vefa Kavasu, Yahya Yavuz, Ersin Ekmekçi, Sinan Ekmekçi, Barýþ duman, Azad Koldaþ, A. Vahap Aydemir and Halil Candemir."

The police is reported to have a name list and continue with the operation.
