12 summaries of proceedings arrive at Joint Parliamentary Committee on Justice and Constitution

12 summaries of proceedings seeking to lift the parliamentary immunity of nine HDP deputies and one DBP deputy were referred to the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Justice and Constitution on Wednesday.

12 summaries of proceedings have been sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Justice and Constitution seeking to strip nine Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) deputies and one Democratic Regions Party (DBP) deputy of their parliamentary immunity.

The 10 MPs  have recently been issued with summaries of proceedings.

They are: HDP Siirt MP Sıdık Taş, HDP Iğdır MP Habip Eksik, HDP Batman MP Ayşe Acar Başaran, HDP Muş MP Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, HDP Şanlıurfa MP Nusrettin Maçin, HDP Şırnak MP Nuran İmir, HDP Şırnak MP Hüseyin Kaçmaz, HDP Mardin MP Ebru Günay, HDP Diyarbakır MP Remziye Tosun and DBP Diyarbakır MP Salihe Aydeniz.

Since the beginning of 2022, an astonishing number of 62 summaries of proceedings have been received by Parliament.

Added to the last 12 files, a total of 36 MPs (1 DBP, 1 main opposition Republican People's Party / CHP, 1 independent, 2 Workers' Party of Turkey / TİP, and 31 HDP) face summaries of proceedings.

The ministry sends the files to the Presidency and it refers them to the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Constitution and Justice. If the committee decides to put the summaries on its agenda, a drafting committee will be set up for each file. The joint committee has one month to discuss the decisions by the drafting committees.

If the committee votes for the lift of immunities, the summaries of proceedings will be sent to the parliament's General Assembly. The deputies whose immunity is sought to be lifted will testify before Parliament. A simple majority of votes is required for the lifting of the parliamentary immunity of an MP.
