Food engineer Hayati Asiltürk (32) from Uþak was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment, accused of "insulting" in the letter he wrote to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoðan in 2007.
Hayati Asiltürk sent Prime Minister Erdoðan a letter to ask for a job. After two years, when the letter was published on the internet, a criminal case was filed against Asiltürk at Uþak 1st Criminal Court of Peace on 18 May, 2009.
While the court sentenced Asiltürk to 10 months in prison following a 13 month-long proceeding, his fine was converted to 6 thousand liras cash. Asiltürk appealed against, saying that some parts in the three-page letter were extracted and brought together, adding that it will not be seen as an insult when read as a whole.
