The historic resistance led by YPG/YPJ against the occupation attempt of ISIS gangs in Kobanê has left 6 months behind.

More villages are being cleansed of ISIS gangs every day as part of the operation to liberate the rural areas which is going on since the gangs were entirely driven out of the town centre on 26 January.

YPG/YPJ fighters who have reached the Euphrates near Jarablus, which gangs use as their base on the western front, are continuing their advance on the eastern and southern fronts as well, now liberating the Arab-populated villages after taking control of an area which goes beyond the first line of defense they held when ISIS attacks first began.

YPG Commander Nulhat Kobanê assessed the historic resistance in Kobanê which is continuing in the phase of victory after six months of heroic struggle against the ISI gangs.

Remarking that the Rojava Revolution has presented a model which enabled all peoples there to express themselves freely and rule themselves, YPG Commander said; “A number of blood sucking organizations and states couldn't tolerate this system which was created as an alternative to all the present systems on the world. Unable to accept this alternative system and the gains of the Kurdish people, they have imposed an embargo on Kobanê for three years which is in addition facing attacks for the last two years.”

YPG Commander pointed out that the attacks launched by a number of states against Kobanê, in various guises but consequently with an aim to order to choke the Rojava Revolution, reached the peak with the attacks of ISIS gangs. He recalled that ISIS gangs had previously taken Mosul and Raqqa under control without facing any resistance, and seized a large amount of heavy weapons in their attacks on these regions which they carried out with the support and organization of many states.

"These attacks were an indication of an imminent attack on Kobanê. We therewith started our preparations in order to defend our lands against a probable attack", he noted.

YPG Commander stressed that in these attacks, the terrorist organization of ISIS was supported by everyone who couldn't tolerate the gains and values of the Kurdish people in Rojava. He remarked that these powers which organized ISIS and had it attack Kobanê wanted to break the will of the Kurdish people in Kobanê.

Nulhat Kobanê emphasised that thousands of ISIS gangs, who were backed with artillery and tank reinforcements and the support of dozens of states, thus started to attack Kobanê, adding; “These states weren't supporting ISIS only by providing arms and recruiting new members. They also wanted to spread a fear of ISIS by ceaselessly broadcasting the savagery perpetrated by the ISIS on TV channels in their countries.”

Drawing attention to the military and technical superiority the ISIS gangs held while attacking Kobanê, YPG Commander said that a resistance inspired by the 40-year-old struggle of the Kurdish freedom movement and based on the people who achieved victories thanks to their self-defense force was mounted against the inhumane terrorist organization of ISIS and its supporters. The YPG/YPJ resistance bore a firm determination in victory against these attacks under any circumstances, he said.

Emphasising that the Kurdish people fought with their commitment to freedom against the tanks and heavy weapons of the ISIS, Nulhat Kobanê said; “In spite of all the challenging conditions and the support of dozens of countries, the resistance of the Kurdish people, whom the system always wanted to eliminate, has once again revealed itself in Kobanê.”

YPG Commander underlined that with the resistance in Kobanê, the Kurdish people declared their will and courage for freedom to the whole world, adding; "We fought against the greatest terrorism on the world, and proved to the whole world that the Kurdish people just want fredom and humanity. Besides this, the participation of numerous people from across the world in the Kobanê battle for humanity gave a deeper meaning to the resistance."

YPG Commander said that they took major lessons from the Kobanê resistance, the most important of which was that the Kurdish people should get united, adding; "The sprouting of the unity of the Kurdish people and the exchange of views by the Kurdish forces brought the collapse of ISIS, the biggest terrorist organization of the world. If we fail to remain united, we will experience another failure of a resistance throughout history."

Nulhat Kobanê recalled that the resistance continued with the liberation of villages, underlining that YPG/YPJ took strength to wage this historic resistance from their desire to create the source of a new life and from their firm belief in the freedom of the Kurdish people.

"Kurdish youths in the ranks of YPG/YPJ did what everyone else would do in order to protect their people and lands. Our fighters who attribute a great meaning to their self-sacrifice will be resisting against organizations like ISIS and their supporters under any circumstances."

Recalling that many comrades of theirs fell a martyr fighting for the freedom of the Kurdish people and a democratic Syria, YPG Commander vowed that; "We will continue our struggle until we accomplish the aim of our martyrs."
