Young boy injured near military base

An 11-year of Kurdish boy was injured by unexploded ordnance in Idil district of Sirnak province.

It is reported that Harun Suna (11) a shepherd herding his sheep close to a military base in Sulak village found a military substance at 7:30 this morning which exploded while he was playing with it. The Shepherd who was heavily injured in the blast was hospitalised by his family.

A witness of the incident stated: “The children were herding their sheep around the village. We suddenly heard an explosion and saw smoke rising. I run to the place where I found Harun Suna covered with blood. I called the villages and we took him to the hospital. The place where the explosion happened is 100- 150 meters close to the gendarmerie station. The soldiers surround the village and lay ambush against the rebels.”

Every year tens of Kurdish children get killed or injured by unexploded ordnance around the military zones in the South East.
