Yet another fire in Başağaç village of Şırnak

While the forest fire started by artillery fires of Turkish soldiers on Mount Cudi continues, yet another fire has erupted in the rural areas of Başağaç (Mendîkera) village of Şırnak, leaving a large forested area and crop field burned out.

The forest fire that started 3 days ago due to the artillery fires opened from Çalışkan Hudut Battalion in Silopi district of Şırnak is yet to be extinguished as Turkish authorities have taken no single step to take the fire under control, proving the righteousness of the Kurdish movement's remarks describing the fire as “destruction of the Kurdistan nature”.

In the meantime another wildfire has broken out in the rural areas of Başağaç village of Şırnak late last night, as a result of which a 40-decare cultivated area and forested area has burnt out.

While the cause of the fire wasn't immediately clear, villagers prevented the spreading of fire thanks to early intervention.

DBP Şırnak branch co-chairs Salih Gülenç and Zozan Anık as well as party executives and councillors joined the fight against the fire, while no help could be received from the governmental institutions. Although the fire has been extinguished after taken under control, the danger of a new fire outbreak remains as no work has been performed yet for chilling the scene.

Commenting on the recent wildfires in the region, DBP Şırnak branch co-chair Salih Gülenç said the silence of Turkish authorities was a result of their specific policies against the Kurdish region as Turkish soldiers have started fires deliberately.

“Like every year, the Turkish state is again trying to take revenge on Kurdistan. We know very well that they are trying every way possible to destroy and unpeople our territory and land through a specific policy”, Gülenç said.

DBP Şırnak branch co-chair added that the Turkish state and the government pursued a revengeful policy with arrests and fires after it could not accept the results of June 7 elections.
