Women from Maxmur appeal to South Kurdistan voters

Women in Maxmur Refugee Camp called on the people of South Kurdistan (North Iraq) to go to the polls and cast their votes carefully in the upcoming Kurdistan Region Parliamentary elections.

Voters in the Federal Kurdistan Region will go to the polls on 20 October to renew the parliament. Parties are competing for 100 seats in the parliament.

Women living in the Martyr Rüstem Cûdî Refugee Camp (Maxmur) appealed to the conscience of the voters and asked them to use their votes to protect Kurdish rights and lands.

Zelîxa Şirnexî drew attention to the violations of rights and violence against women in South Kurdistan and called on the people to vote by listening to the voice of their conscience. Zelîxa Şirnexî stated that the occupation of Kurdistan's lands and the suppression of free thought have created great problems. “People who defend their lands and rights are arrested and tortured,” she said.

Taybet Mijînî emphasised the importance of the people participating in the elections by seeing the realities and said that the votes should be given to the candidates who will protect the Kurdistan lands and the rights of the people. She stated that candidates who defend the rights of women should be supported. Taybet Mijînî also addressed the candidates and said, “Those who are elected should protect the people of South Kurdistan, the families of martyrs and the children of South Kurdistan.”

The women emphasised that the elections have a critical importance for the future of South Kurdistan and invited all people to go to the polls and vote.
