Turkish army retreats from the village they shelled in Dersim

Turkish soldiers have retreated from the village of Han in Dersim where they killed a civilian during military operation. Empty bullet casings, deep craters and a heavy smell of gas that have been left behind are gripping the attention in the village.

Turkish troops launched a military operation covering the area of the Han village affiliated to Dersim's Nazimiye district and retreated today from the area they had placed under a siege.

During the 4 days of operation the entire rural area was hit by air strikes while the village of Han and its surroundings were continuosly bombarded by helicopters.

Minibus driver Ercan Ateş lost his life and two villagers named Mustafa Uçan and Alican Kasun were taken into custody amid the bombardments on the village. Fifteen villagers who left their homes due to the military operation took shelter in the village of Kirmiziköprü in Pülümür district.

Following the operation's end, the civilians returned to their village. Empty bullet casings lying literally everywhere and deep craters that have been caused by the airstrikes are gripping the attention. The village is also clouded in a heavy stench and mist deriving from some sort of gas.

Tunceli Governorate has not issued any statement yet concerning the killing of villager Ercan Ateş during the bombardments.
