Turkey has been covered by mines and thousand of people pay the consequences of this

There are a million mines on Turkish soil and thousand victims because of mine explosions says Muteber Ogreten, coordinator of Initiative for Turkey without Mine. Ogreten also stated that Turkey didn’t fulfill the responsibilities based on Ottawa Agreement signed by Turkey in 2004.

Turkey has not eliminated mines on the stocks and does not even have a program for clearing the mine fields, said Ogreten who also pointed out how thousand victims of mine explosions have never received any kind of medical or social help from government.

Ogreten said in addition that; “mines are being still laid down in Turkey, there are thousand victims as a result of mine explosions. No one knows how many people were affected from mine explosions. According to our data the number, which we put at a minimum of ten thousand people, is frightening. Those affected don't known how they can access the institutions in order to get help or defend their rights. In fact, those people have a right according to the internationally recognized agreements like the Ottawa Agreement, Right of Handicapped People and European Convention of Human Rights which were signed by Turkey.”
