In Yüksekova district of Hakkari, where local people and youths started carrying out self-defense after declaration of self-governance, police and military forces attacked the neighborhoods of Orman, Mezarlık and Kışla last night.

As the crackdown came 5 minutes after Hakkari Governor's declaration of curfew on the district at 23.30, artillery fire was opened from the military barrack in the district on all three neighborhoods.

After the attempt of military forces to enter the neighborhoods with armored vehicles, clashes erupted as units of self-defense responded to the attack. While clashes in the district are going on since last night, electricity and telephone lines were cut off in three neighborhoods.

At least three people have been reported killed in the crackdown and more than 10 wounded, some of them heavily.

Troops opened fire on the local people in Orman neighborhood where they entered with armored vehicles as of early hours in the morning.

While police forces partially retreated from the neighborhood as locals rushed to the scene of clashes to help the civilians who remained stuck in the area, troops have been deployed on Cengiz Topel Avenue and the road leading to Şemdinli.

Clashes are going on in the district where a number of houses were riddled with bullet holes.
