Shengal Health Committee calls for international action against Turkish war crimes

The Shengal Health Committee called on human rights organizations to stop the Turkish use of chemical weapons against guerrilla forces in Kurdistan.

The Shengal Health Committee issued a statement in front of the Xanesor Assembly denouncing the Turkish use of chemical weapons against guerrilla forces. Members of the committee and representatives from Yazidi institutions and organizations were present at the press briefing.

The Committee offered condolences to the families of the guerrillas who were martyred by Turkish chemical attacks, stating the following:

“We strongly condemn the use of chemical weapons by the Turkish state against the Kurdistan freedom guerrillas. The use of chemical weapons is globally banned. However, the world public remains silent as these weapons are being used against guerrillas today.

The Turkish state has carried out such atrocious attacks against the peoples of the region throughout its history. The United Nations and human rights organizations have remained silent in the face of the never-ending Turkish aggression, encouraging the Turkish state to escalate its attacks.

The Turkish state has committed war crimes not only against the Kurdish guerrillas, but also against the Yazidi people and the Shengal Health Committee. On August 17, 2021, the Sikêniyê hospital was targeted by the same forces, which left 8 of our friends martyred.

We offer our condolences to the families of the martyrs, especially the families of the guerrillas who were martyred by chemical weapons.

We call on all human rights institutions to prevent these attacks and fulfil their responsibilities. These attacks against the Kurdish guerrillas are against humanity.”

After the statement, Meyan Nasır delivered a brief speech on behalf of the families of Shengal martyrs: “As Yazidi mothers, we fully support the guerrillas because we are alive thanks to the guerrillas. We feel pain after each attack against the guerrillas. The guerrillas are our children and they saved us from genocide. We offer condolences to the families of all martyrs. We reiterate our promise to follow in the footsteps of the martyrs and Öcalan.”
