Resistance against usurpation of municipality continues in Batman

The police attacked the people who protested the usurpation of the DEM Party municipalities and the appointment of trustees. The people responded to the attack with slogans.

The protests that started after the usurpation on 4 November of Batman Municipality through the appointment of a trustee by the Ministry of Interior continue.

Masses marched from Yılmaz Güney Park to Basın Junction, where they sang songs to Kurdish songs. As the resistance continued, the police attacked the crowd with pepper spray and water cannons. The people responded to the attack with the slogans ‘We will win if by resisting’, ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadi’ (Woman, Life, Freedom), ‘Berxwedana Jiyane’ (Resistance is Life), ‘Bê Serok Jiyan Na be’ (No Life Without the Leader).

After the attack, people started to march, chanting the slogan ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’. While the police attacked the crowd with pepper spray and water cannons, people responded with slogans. The police once again attacked the people who did not disperse despite the attacks, and the neighbouring businesses were damaged. Shopkeepers also protested against the police.

Siirt MP Sebahat Sarıtaş reacted against the police, saying, “People are fed up with you, you are causing great harm to this people.” A woman was injured by a rubber bullet fired at her foot during the attack.

While the march continued, the protests spread to neighbourhoods.
