Peddler in Amed burns his cart to protest the municipal police

A fruit peddler in Amed city set his cart on fire to protest the obstructions by municipal police of the Yenişehir district usurped by a trustee.

Municipal police instructed by trustees in Amed and its central districts are making it impossible for street peddlers to do their job and make a living.

Tension and quarrel became a daily thing between municipal police and peddlers who are facing never-ending pressure, obstruction and seizure of their carts.

 

A peddler who earns a living by selling fruits for years set his cart on fire at the central Sanat Sokağı (Arts Street) in Amed's Ofis district today in protest at the municipal police whose obstructions and pressures he could not tolerate anymore.

The municipal police escorted by police officers therewith detained the peddler as he cried out; “I am just trying to earn my bread. Shame on those who brought us to this point!”

People around supported the peddler and protested the police and municipal police at the scene. During the following tension between the people and police, one other person was taken into custody. People threw the burned fruits at the vehicle of the municipal police as it left the scene afterwards.
