The Yenişehir municipality, one of the suburbs of the city of Amed, is holding regular discussions on the peace process with local people in neighbourhood meetings.
The Yenişehir municipality holds public meetings every week in the Şilbê Yolaltı neighbourhood centre.
At the latest meeting, co-mayor Selim Kurbanoğlu provided information regarding the ongoing peace process. Kurbanoğlu said that after 30 years without a solution, the process has now reached a critical, important stage. “HDP and the state made a joint statement for the first time. They made a declaration on the 10 articles agreed upon. These ten articles should be concretised by the government,” he added.
Co-mayor Ülkü Baytaş said they wished to transform the classic understanding of local government into popular local administration.
She said that they were discussing problems with local people in order to resolve them, adding: "We will continue to mobilise for the people. While constructing peace, negotiations and a new life, it is necessary for our people to act in unison.”
Local people attending the meeting at the Şilbê Yolaltı neighbourhood centre expressed their views.
