Police raided a number of houses in Mardin's Nusaybin district early this morning in relation with the recent declaration of self-rule.
Nusaybin Municipality Co-mayor Sara Kaya, DBP district co-chairs Ziynet Algan and İdris Yavuz, DBP district executive Alaveddin Aslan and Nusaybin Municipality worker Şehmus Yiğit were detained in the house-raid operation. The detainees have been taken to Nusaybin police station.
During the most recent wave of arrests which now target elected representatives of Kurdish people as well, the following Co-mayors have been remanded in custody;
- Hakkari Co-mayors Dilek Hatipoğlu and Nurullah Çiftçi,
- Amed's Sur district municipality Co-mayors Seyit Narin and Fatma Şık Barut,
- Silvan district municipality Co-mayor Yüksel Bodakçı,
- Lice district municipality Co-mayor Harun Erkuş,
- Van's Edremit district municipality Co-mayor Sevil Rojbin Çetin,
- Ağrı's Eleşkirt district municipality Co-mayor Engin Dursun.
Siirt's Eruh district municipality Co-mayor Hüseyin Kılıç was also detained but released later on conditions of house arrest and ban on leaving the country.
