Organized by the Shengal Autonomous Administration, the Newroz celebration in Kersê Valley of Shengal started with the slogan 'Freedom for Leader Öcalan and status for Shengal’. Rîham Hasan, Co-Chair of the Executive Committee of the Shengal Autonomous Administration, made the statement on behalf of the Shengal Autonomous Administration and the organisations in the city.

Rîham Hasan congratulated the Shengal Martyrs' Families, Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla, Kurdish people and the Yazidi community on Newroz and said the following:

"The 2024 Newroz is very important and meaningful for us. As Mazlum Doğan, the Newroz martyr who set his body on fire in the Amed dungeon, said, 'Resistance leads to victory, surrender leads to betrayal.' I commemorate all Newroz martyrs in the person of Mazlum Doğan, Zekiye Alkan and Rahşan, and I bow to their struggle with respect. Just as there were Dehaks in the past, there is the mentality of Dehaks today. Just as Kawa the Blacksmith defeated the oppressors by fighting against oppression, today the spirit of Newroz and the philosophy of Leader Apo will put an end to the occupation of the invading Turkish state and the Barzani Family.

We will strengthen and resist with the promise of Freedom for Leader Öcalan and Autonomy for Shengal. On the other hand, the good news announced by the Kurdish Freedom Movement left its mark on Newroz. This good news is extremely important and meaningful for us. Because the Turkish state was attacking all our people with its techniques. The blow struck against this technique is extremely meaningful."

After the message read by Rîham Hasan, the mothers of martyrs and Riham Hico, spokesperson of the Free Yazidi Women's Movement (TAJÊ), lit the Newroz fire. Then the folklore team took the stage.
