Mihemed Bekir: Removing the PKK from the list of terrorist organisation will help peace

Mihemed Bekir, said that the PKK is the party of peoples who want freedom and added that "removing the PKK from the list of terrorist organisations means solving the Kurdish problem and building a free and democratic system."

Mihemed Bekir, member of the Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan Committee, said that it is an injustice to keep the PKK on the list of terrorist organisations and called on the forces that took this decision about the PKK, which represents 40-50 million people, to put an end to this shame.

The International Initiative for Justice for the Kurds has collected 4 million signatures from many countries in Europe since 13 November 2021 for the PKK to be removed from the EU terrorist organisations list. The campaign started with the gathering of more than a thousand intellectuals, academics, politicians, artists and activists from 30 countries and still continues.

Efforts to strengthen the campaign are also going on in South Kurdistan. A large number of intellectuals, writers, artists, activists, journalists and citizens have participated and signed the campaign so far.

Mihemed Bekir described the PKK's being on the list of terrorist organisations as a great shame for the international community.

Drawing attention to the PKK's struggle for the freedom of the Kurdish people, Bekir said: "The PKK has fought for a legitimate cause. Besides the Kurdish people, the people of the region have also been subjected to great oppression and genocide. It is a great shame that the PKK is on the list of terrorist organisations. It is an injustice. International forces and the people of the region now know that this injustice must come to an end.”

Bekir added: “We call on the sovereign states and the powers that took this decision to put an end to this shame and delist the PKK. Because the PKK represents 40-50 million people. The fact that the PKK is kept on the list shows that these forces are against a solution, and in favour of war, occupation and genocide. The removal of the PKK from the list and the granting of a legitimate right to the Kurdish people is not only a problem for the Kurdish people but also for the peoples of the region. With a free life and a free system, a democratic solution for the future is possible."
