The memorial wall by the grave of Sakine Cansız, a founding member of the PKK who was assassinated in Paris in 2013, has been attacked and damaged.
The memorial wall by the grave of Sakine Cansız, a co-founder of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) who was assassinated alongside Fidan Doğan, representative of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) in Paris and Leyla Şaylemez, member of the Kurdish youth movement in Paris on January 9th 2013, has been attacked and damaged.
The memorial on a 3m high marble wall contains an image of Cansız, dove wings by her image and a star above, in the Asri Cemetery 2 km away from Dersim city center, hometown of the leading Kurdish militant.
The attacker(s) tried but failed to take down the star and dove wings made of pine wood, upon which they hit the memorial with a hard object, leaving one of the wings and the star broken.
The Asri Cemetery watchman noted that there was a military checkpoint 500 meters away from the graveyard, and said the attack was most probably carried out at midnight.
